’Twas the night
before New Year’s
’Twas the night before New Year's, when through every home
Excitement was brewing from Alaska to Rome.
The Ball was hung in Times Square with care,
In hopes that 2020 soon would be there.
The world was hopeful for the year ahead.
Visions of resolutions danced in our heads.
My friends in their finest, we all looked our best,
“Happy New Year to all!” we loudly professed.
3 months later...
In the aisles of Walmart there arose such a clatter,
I sprang for the TP because of the chatter.
I watched the whole world change in a flash,
While I worked from home and binged reruns of M.A.S.H.
My dog always barking while I’m on a Zoom,
My kids keep on screaming from the next room.
My roommate ordered an entire personal gym,
Carol Baskin. Killed her husband. Whacked him.
I took up six hobbies; reorganized the pantry,
The family stands outside to visit nana and grampy.
In these unprecedented times we take extraordinary measures,
Social distancing is my new guilty pleasure.
Another weekend, another drive by birthday,
Wait... what day is it today?
A Gray Loon mask on my face, hand sanitizer galore,
I make sure Uber Eats has all my food at the door.
I coughed out in public, and felt plenty of shame;
They stuck a swab in my nose, and they tickled my brain.
The store checks my temp before I can enter,
I do virtual yoga at home to find my center.
All-the-while wildfires and hurricanes spike; while murder hornets are starting to strike.
Mother Nature has truly shown her dislike.
Sports are back with cardboard fans,
But 2020 cancelled a lot of our plans.
"No parties! No Olympics! No concerts or meetings!
No movies! No trade shows! No festivals or greetings!”
From the Golden Gate Bridge to Carnegie Hall!
Let's hang in there a bit longer and stay safe you-all!
Being 6 feet apart, won’t last for forever
We've made it this far, and it's been quite the endeavor.
We are truly grateful to be a part of your day,
And hope together we can all enjoy the holiday.
May this season be filled with much laughter and cheer,
That carries on through all of next year.
Put something in your glass, whatever feels right!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
